New fibers
Multi-core fibers or innovative doping profiles
With the growing demand for internet usage, a new generation of communication systems is currently under development. To increase network capacity, several research projects conducted at the laboratory are exploring different avenues: more modes per core, more cores per optical fiber, or a wider bandwidth to accommodate information channels. A crucial element in the development of a complete communication link is the optical amplifier, which periodically amplifies information signals to prevent them from attenuating before reaching the detector at the other end of the fiber.
In our laboratory, we have all the necessary equipment to design, manufacture, and characterize specialized amplifying optical fibers for the communication networks of tomorrow. From equipment for manufacturing innovative preforms to optical fiber drawing towers, and highly qualified technicians with unique expertise, the available resources are numerous and helpful.
Several multi-core fibers or innovative dopant profiles have been produced in the laboratory in recent years. These have led to the publication of several scientific articles.
